“The truth is not always profitable — but it is always powerful.”

In this episode of The Business Book Club, we explore Money Men by Dan McCrum, the gripping true story behind one of Europe’s biggest financial scandals — the rise and fall of Wirecard. What began as a promising fintech success story unravelled into a billion-dollar fraud, uncovering deception at the highest levels of business, politics, and finance.

McCrum, an investigative journalist for the Financial Times, takes readers inside his six-year pursuit to expose the truth — a journey marked by corporate cover-ups, cyberattacks, surveillance, and extraordinary resilience. Money Men reads like a thriller but delivers powerful lessons in integrity, accountability, and the courage to stand up for the truth.

In this episode, we discuss the deeper takeaways from McCrum’s investigation — from the psychology of fraud and corporate arrogance to the role of journalism in holding power to account. It’s a story that reminds every business leader of the importance of transparency, ethics, and critical thinking in an age of hype and disruption.
