“Nothing in life is as important as you think it is while you are thinking about it.”

In this episode of The Business Book Club, we explore Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman, one of the most influential books ever written on human behaviour, psychology, and decision-making. Kahneman, a Nobel Prize–winning psychologist, introduces the concept of two systems of thought — the fast, intuitive System 1 and the slow, analytical System 2 — and shows how they shape our choices, perceptions, and judgements in everyday life.

The book reveals how our minds are prone to bias and error, even when we believe we’re thinking rationally. Through decades of groundbreaking research, Kahneman unpacks why we often make decisions that defy logic, and how understanding these mental shortcuts can lead to clearer, more effective thinking in business, leadership, and beyond.

In this episode, we discuss how Kahneman’s insights apply to real-world contexts — from strategic decision-making and marketing to leadership communication and risk management. Whether you’re a business leader, entrepreneur, or lifelong learner, this episode will help you recognise cognitive bias, slow down impulsive thinking, and make smarter, more balanced decisions.

About the Author

Daniel Kahneman (1934–2024) was a pioneering psychologist and Nobel laureate whose research transformed our understanding of human judgement and decision-making. Awarded the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences in 2002, Kahneman’s work bridged psychology and economics, laying the foundation for the field of behavioural economics. He served as a professor emeritus at Princeton University and co-founded the research consultancy The Decision Science Group.

Beyond Thinking, Fast and Slow, Kahneman co-authored Noise: A Flaw in Human Judgment with Olivier Sibony and Cass Sunstein, and his ideas continue to shape how governments, businesses, and individuals approach decision-making. His lifelong work emphasised humility in thinking — recognising the limits of our intuition while learning to make better, evidence-based choices.
